Question 1

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

My books arise from impressions I receive from within, from my soul.

In my first book (Hidden and found, broken and healed), I recognise many of my own emotional wounds that have now (mostly) healed. I also recognise the way I went through a process of inner healing. And yet, for me, it doesn't feel like I've taken that as my starting point. After all, my starting point was what bubbled up spontaneously from within me. On the other hand... the two (own experiences and what bubbled up) are of course connected.

For my third book, I already have ideas, but I feel I need to 'dig deeper' into my soul to find out how the book should really take shape. It's about a new world, fully restored... you can't make a story out of that from your mind. It really has to come from my soul: how is this world originally meant to be?

Speaking of mysteries... my deep longing for that world....

Question 2

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

I don't make a book list. I do have a huge stash of books I want to read someday. I am currently reading Nora Roberts' books and in between sometimes take a book by Ruth Rendell or David Baldacci.

Question 3

If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go?

I would love to go to the world of the Fey, to Talamh, which Nora Roberts writes about in her 'The Dragon Heart Legacy'. This trilogy evokes something... something of connection, something of longing. Yes, I would like to go to that world, knowing somewhere deep inside that it is less fictional than it seems.

Question 4

Can you tell us a two-sentence horror story?

For most people, life is a horror story in itself.

The process of inner healing feels like a horror story...

but brings healing,
making you who you really are,
brings you to your core,
totally free!

Question 5

How do you deal with writer’s block?

Writer's block...

On the one hand, I know that I can trust that my soul knows long ago what I want to write, and that I can just keep on typing, and maybe delete a lot again and retype, just until I feel it's right.

On the other hand, it means that I may quietly take a few days to ask myself questions, dig deeper into my soul.

This week I am in such a period, before I can start writing my new book ('A new world'). Questions are surfacing, answers are still too few to really get going. It needs time, and an 'inner conversation', asking myself questions, waiting and listening.

Both can feel uncomfortable at times (to say the least), but I know it is right, that it is necessary, to get further, deeper.

Question 6

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

The best thing about writing is that I get to put words to the flow of impressions I get from within. How the impressions come often feels like a spring, a fountain or even a volcano. If I were to shut off that flow, not give words to it, it would make me unhappy. This is how I myself have experienced it most of my life. The pressure in my inner self was great, but I couldn't do anything with it because I was emotionally broken.

For a year now, I have been able to let the flow go, to type out the impressions, so that the stories are created.

And after all the failures of the years before, I am deeply amazed at what has happened in that writing in the past year! And I am still amazed that I am able to do this....

Question 7

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Listen to your inner voice so you know whether writing is really 'your thing', and if so, what is bubbling up from your soul.

Your soul knows everything, about you and what you need.

Learn to listen to that!

Question 8

What are you currently working on?

I am doing preliminary work for part 3 of my series 'Follow your heart, change the world'. And that preliminary work consists of taking a rest from writing, and engaging in an inner conversation about questions that arise. Think of it as a question and answer game in your mind.

During such a conversation, I try to feel, to grasp what the answer is that I want to move forward with, what I can use. This preliminary work is quite spontaneous, so don't pity me that I would force myself to bombard myself with questions. It's just something that happens in between the other things I'm doing.

Question 9

How do you get inspired to write?

Just by my soul, impressions that are bubbling up

Question 10

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

I got the idea for both my books from my soul. It started with a vague idea about a young woman who wanted to escape the home of her controlling, intimidating, manipulative and judgmental parents. I had nothing else, no storyline, no plan. The rest came as I typed and grew into the second book.

The transition to the third book is a bit more laborious. I know in general what it will be about, but it is still far too general to really put words to it.

Do you have a question about my writing?
If so, you can leave it below.
I hope to answer your question as soon as possible
and post it above as a Q&A.
