Elly used much of the day for her painting. It wasn't until mid-afternoon that she completed the work for the day. She knew it wouldn't be very long before the light from outside became less bright, and she also began to feel it in her body that it was okay to stop. The nice thing was, she had managed to paint some larger birds scattered around the wall. On the lower part of the wall, close to the window, she had made a heron in bright shades of blue with an orange fish in its beak. Normally goldfish don't swim in the ditch, but the idea had occurred to her to give the heron a nice brightly colored fish. Later she would paint water and reeds around the heron, so he wouldn't just stand there in a vacuum. Around this morning's colorful gull she had made other somewhat larger birds flying. One was clearly a swan by the look of its shape, but it was far from white, it had lilac and pink feathers! Thus she had given all her birds their own fantasy colors.
As she stood looking at her work from a distance, she heard someone coming up the stairs. Margreet, finished zigzagging her tapestry, came in, slapped her hand in front of her mouth. "Ooooh! How cool Elly! Oh that swan, so obviously a swan, but with different colors... and there a bright blue heron with a goldfish, hahaha!"
Elly enjoyed her enthusiastic response.
"Working with colors, combining natural reality with fantasy... the result is really fantastic!" Margreet put into words exactly how Elly had experienced it.
"Glad you are so happy with it! I'm really happy with it myself, but how someone else experiences it, you can only wait and see. I'm going to stop for today. My body has had enough for a while, and the light will soon be less. Shall I continue tomorrow?"
"Fine yah, I think we're here all days during the day. Tomorrow afternoon we'll go to the village to look at that building, and to Action, but otherwise we'll mainly be here on the site, I think. And when we're gone, you can go ahead, you know! Have you any idea what you're going to paint tomorrow?"
"Yes, I'm going to make the sky around the big birds. I'm going to do it differently than I've ever done or seen from other painters. Anyway, in very light tones, so that it stays about the birds. And I'm not going to use blue and white-grey very precisely along the birds, more like sweeping, well, it's hard to explain, but the idea came to me yesterday and I can see it quite well. And then I will go on with smaller birds. I think that's more than enough for the second day. I'll see how far I get."
Elly closed the paint jars and cleaned her brushes and water jar, while sharing with Margreet her gratitude and joy at all that happened this week. It was so much emotionally. And now today also an opportunity to do this work more often....
"I'm so happy for you, for you together," Margreet responded. "I was talking about it yesterday with Huib, about our desire to help people in their process, which I myself am still in the middle of, so that we become completely ourselves. That is why I thought it was so great that those youngsters came up with their plan to watch a movie together. Even two, tomorrow ‘The Matrix’, which is supposed to be exciting."
"Well, that's real, because this process of making choices and going through all kinds of shit is exciting too! All those people around us with whom we have entered into relationships, but with whom we actually have nothing at all, with whom it does not click deep inside. Superficial conversations, small talk... exhausting all of them. And all those things that have set us stuck, to discover them and to realize how things may become different, but then to discover that you cannot get it done right away. I find that very exciting! But anyway, we have faith that this will only make us better!"
"Exactly yes," Margreet replied, "that's how I feel too."
Together they walked to the guest house. "I'm going to fold the laundry for a while, and then help Annerieke in the kitchen. I'll see you tomorrow!"
With a high-five, they said goodbye to each other, laughing. Elly went home and Margreet, humming as always, tidied up the laundry.
