Chapter 225.

Chatting with Huib

Tanja and Nancy ran to the work shed, looking for Huib. They still had their wooden guesthouse in their hands. Beaming, they looked at him, holding up their guesthouse. "Thank you Huib, how nice you made them!"

Huib grinned, "Glad you girls are happy with them. I thought it was such a nice idea from Koos and Olivia."

"I'm curious who the new guests are," Nancy told them. "Do you know, Huib?"

"Yes, and I know them a little bit too. Remember when Lisa had that lawsuit?"

Tanja nodded, "Yes, it was in the paper. We read it together, Nancy and I. Lisa has been through some nasty things. Mom had to cry again and went to talk to Lisa. I asked Dad if those nasty things had happened to Mom too. He said, they had, when she was a little older than us. I thought it was a scary idea, but now I'm glad I know what happened. I told Mom that too. At first she thought it was awkward that we knew, but we told her, that it was just right, that now we really understood why she had to cry so often."

"Yes," added Nancy, "and then she thought it was good, and she said we could always talk to her about it. I'm glad about that, I don't really know how to explain it..."

As she had put her hand on her heart, Huib asked, "You feel the heart-to-heart contact with Rachel even better now, is it like that?"

Nancy looked at him in surprise: "Yes, it is! Like it's even more real. Rachel is not our real mother, our own mother died when I was a baby. But actually Rachel is so truly our mother, I've never felt otherwise. And now that's even stronger."

"Beautiful, very beautiful," Huib replied, moved.

At that moment, in the corner of his eye, he saw movement outside. He looked through the window. "The new guests are already here, but not yet in the guesthouse. They're on their way to Sjaak and Lisa's, look."

The girls stood up on their toes to look through the window.

"Oh how funny, that one guy has his hair in a ponytail. So cute!"

"Hahaha," Tanja laughed, "you always say that when you see a man with a ponytail."

"Yes, but it's also just special, most men don't have that, but with the men who have it, it usually looks nice."

Huib chuckled at the girl logic. "That guy with the tail I don't actually know yet. I know his name is Alexander. He's an auctioneer, he sold all the stuff from Lisa's previous house. The other guy's name is Johan. He was the judge at Lisa's trial. The woman on the left is named Ellen, she was Lisa's lawyer at the trial, and she is married to Alexander. And that other woman's name is Marieke. She took care of the security guards. And she belongs to Johan. So all four of them worked for Lisa."

"How nice for Lisa that they are coming to stay here. Dad said that trial was pretty special, that it usually went very differently."

"That's right yes, it was very special. But dear girls, I'm going to finish up here, I'm going to the guesthouse."

Hopping along with Huib, they went into the guesthouse to find their parents, who were sitting snugly together in the living room, looking at the pictures of Koos and Olivia. Having just gone through an intense piece of healing, Rachel experienced the series of nature photos as a nice way to unwind again.
