Margreet clung to Huib as they looked after their friends. "I'm also gigantically tired from all the emotions," she said. "Shall we go straight to bed? Or do you think that's too early?"
"Yes, it's still early, but if we need it, it's not too early. We can have a chat on the bed if you want, and otherwise we'll just go to sleep, or cuddle." Huib pressed a few kisses to her forehead. Together they piled up the pastry dishes, put everything on the tray and took it to the kitchen.
"Washing up will come later, wait, I'll just put everything in the sink in water, it will be clean in a minute tomorrow."
"Smart housewife!" Huib smiled.
After a lovely warm shower they crawled under their comforter. Margreet nestled into her lover's embrace. Huib looked down at her hair, just below his face, and wondered aloud, "Your fatigue, is that just from tonight's emotions? Or does your pregnancy play a role as well?"
"Well, that's actually very strange. I'm not bothered at all by that pregnancy. If I didn't know better, I'd think we were completely mistaken."
"Hmm, no, mistaken we aren't, but special it is. To be pregnant without feeling it... you only had a little trouble for two days, then you also looked a little peaked, but now you just look like a young, healthy woman."
"I am, after all," Margreet murmured against his chest, "and that little one in my belly will show itself in a few months. I'll have to make some clothes for when I get thicker... A couple of wrap-around skirts, which you can fasten at different sizes. So if my belly continues to grow, I can widen the skirts another notch. I can even imagine how I could make that. Funny, I have never seen such maternity skirts before! I'll soon go and see if they have any pieces of fabric at the thrift store that I like for it."
"Absolutely fine, but only buy pieces of fabric you really like, Margreet, otherwise it's better to pay a little more for pieces of fabric from a craft store or from a fabric market."
"All right, I promise you that, but I know they have quite a lot of pieces of fabric at the thrift store, so I suspect there will be some in there. I'll see!"
Margreet yawned. "Shall we go to sleep?"
"Good idea girl, sleep well." Huib pulled her tightly against him for a moment longer and kissed her.
"You too, sleep well," Margreet mumbled, and after lying down on her stomach, fell asleep immediately.
