Back at home, Sjaak and Lisa talked together about what to do with her legacy. Sjaak was clearly struggling with that. He really didn't want anything that would remind him of Henk.
"I understand you, Sjaak, but look at it from my side. It's my property, I even worked for it." Lisa pulled a mad face. "Well, let's leave that aside. But what I think is that it would be good to sell everything, maybe organize an auction for everything that’s in that house. It's expensive stuff, Sjaak, it could bring in a lot of money. And if we can find a good auctioneer, we don't even have to be there ourselves. But whether we do or not, I want to go into that house one more time beforehand to at least take away and destroy all those things he used to sexually arouse me. No one will be allowed to get possession of that and then abuse another woman with it."
Sjaak had a deep thought wrinkle in his forehead. He felt frustrated.
But ideas bubbled up in Lisa's mind and she spoke further, "I'd like to open a joint account and have all the money from the sale deposited there. And also the amount the house is sold for."
She saw that Sjaak wanted to object and quickly spoke further, "Wait a minute, let me explain it to you. The sale of those luxury furnishings and the sale of that big house will bring in a lot of money. I long to do things with it over time that come to mind in our hearts. What I was thinking about while talking was that recently I saw a building near the thrift store that was empty. It was not very big, not suitable as a store, but it seemed perfect for Huib. He could exhibit the things he makes in that building. People could then see his work through the window. He can put a bill on the door, with his phone number, so people can call him if they are interested in something, have questions, want to buy or order something. That building is empty, is for sale, but I don't expect him to be able to buy it. I would think it would be so nice for him if we could help him with that, you know?"
Sjaak began to relax. "I still struggle with it because it has that link to Henk in it. Even though he's not alive anymore, I'm just still terribly angry at him for mistreating you like that. But that's my own problem. What was done to you, saddens me, but I have to deal with that myself. But your plan for Huib I find amazing. Do you have any idea how we can handle it practically?"
"First of all, I want to call Ellen, my lawyer, because the divorce can be stopped. I'll ask her if she knows how we can go about it. Shall I call her right away?"
Sjaak nodded, whereupon Lisa grabbed her cell phone and looked up her lawyer's number. When Ellen called in, Lisa explained what had happened over the past weekend, and asked her if she had any idea how to proceed.
"If Henk doesn't have a will showing otherwise, you are his legal heir," Ellen told her. I'll find out for you, check with the notary there. As soon as I know more I'll call you back."
"Good idea, nice that you want to do that," Lisa replied. "But then there's another thing. Suppose it's true that I'm the sole heir, then that house and everything in it must be sold. I was thinking of an auction for the contents. Do you perhaps know a reliable auctioneer?"
"Oh yes," Ellen laughed, "my husband Alexander is an auctioneer, and I find him very reliable hahaha! If the notary indicates that everything is for you, shall I just ask my husband to see if he wants to do it? Then you'll know right away too."
"Yes please! Then I'll wait for your call before I take any further steps."
They wrapped up the conversation. "She'll call back, as soon as she's spoken to a notary there, and she will ask her husband if he wants to arrange an auction. I don't have a key to the house anymore, but I want to go there soon to take away what shouldn't be sold." Lisa looked thoughtful, "I don't know how to arrange that."
"Ask Ellen later, maybe she knows a solution. Or else through Martin to the police there."
Lisa nodded.
Ellen didn't let her wait for long. She called to tell that Henk had no will and that everything was therefore Lisa's property. Furthermore, she had called the local police. Lisa could discuss with them when she wanted to enter the house to take away what she didn't want to sell. And finally, Alexander would contact her about the auction, which he was happy to arrange for her.
Relieved, Lisa put her cell phone back in her pocket a moment later and told everything to Sjaak.
"When do you think we can go there together?" she asked him.
"As far as I'm concerned tomorrow. Do you think what you want to take with you will all fit in the pickup?"
"Oh yes, with ease," Lisa laughed, "I don't think I want to take anything other than those sex toys of his, but of course you never know what I might come across there. But the pickup is big enough! I'll look up the number of the police in that area, and I'll ask them if we can go there tomorrow. And then we can ask Huib whether we can use the pick-up then."
Lisa browsed the internet for the number she needed and called the police. She explained who she was and discovered that she had the officer on the phone who had just spoken to Ellen. That saved a lot of explaining. The man briefly asked a colleague if it was okay for her to go to the house tomorrow and then agreed with Lisa that he and his colleague would be there tomorrow morning at 11:00.
"Then we'll make sure we're there too! Glad it can be done so soon, thank you for your effort!" said Lisa.
"No thanks, ma'am, we're happy to help. See you tomorrow then!" the officer replied.
Lisa put her cell phone back in her pocket.
"Tomorrow morning is fine, at 11 o'clock there will be two officers at the house to let us in. Shall we walk over to Huib for the pickup?"
"Let's do that!"
